Domain status and troubleshooting
The Custom Domains list shows a status for each domain. Hover over the status to see a short explanation.
What each status means
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Setting Up | QRForge is preparing your domain. Usually under a minute. | Wait. The page updates by itself. |
| Pending DNS | QRForge is waiting for your DNS records. | Add the records shown in View DNS records. |
| Verifying | Your records were found. The certificate is being issued. This can take a few minutes. | Wait. |
| Active | The domain works and is secured with a certificate. All traffic uses https://. | Nothing. You're done. |
| Inactive | The domain is not serving traffic, usually because your plan no longer covers it. | Check your plan. See below. |
| Error | Verification or the certificate failed. | Check your records, then use Delete & Retry. |
| Deleting | The domain is being removed. This may take a few minutes. | Wait. |
About the certificate
Every active custom domain gets a free security certificate, so visitors see
https:// and a padlock. QRForge creates and renews it automatically. You
do not need to buy or upload a certificate.
Check the status now
- In Custom Domains, click View DNS records on the domain.
- Click Check Now. You see "Status updated."
You can check again after a short wait. The button shows a countdown.
Troubleshooting
Stuck in Pending DNS
- Make sure both records are added. See DNS records.
- Check the Host / Name — a common mistake is typing the domain twice.
- Wait. DNS can take up to 48 hours with some providers.
- After 72 hours without the record, setup stops with an Error.
Stuck in Verifying
- Make sure the
_acme-challengerecord is still there and unchanged. - If your domain has CAA records, add one that allows
pki.goog. - After 24 hours, verification stops with an Error.
Error Click Delete & Retry on the domain ("Delete this domain and try again"). This removes the failed attempt and its certificate. Then add the domain again, and check the DNS records carefully.
"Our certificate provider cannot see your CNAME record yet." Usually a DNS delay. Check that the record is saved, wait 15–30 minutes, and check again.
"Our certificate provider has temporarily limited certificate requests for this domain." This is temporary. No action is needed. Check again in 1–24 hours.
Inactive
- "This domain is inactive because your subscription has lapsed." — Subscribe again to reactivate it.
- "This domain is inactive because your plan no longer covers it." — Your plan includes fewer domains than you have. Upgrade, or remove a domain.
"Can't add a domain" The message explains why, for example:
- "Custom domains are available on paid plans. Subscribe to connect your own domain." — you are on the free trial. Subscribe to a paid plan.
- "Custom domains are available on Pro and above." — you have no active plan. Choose a plan on the Subscription page.
- "You've used all … custom domains included in your plan." (or "You've used the 1 custom domain included in your plan.") — Upgrade, buy the Custom Domains Add-On, or remove a domain you no longer use.
- "This project already has a custom domain. Each project can have one." — Pick another project, or create a new one.
"Enter a valid domain, e.g. links.yourcompany.com — no http://, paths, or spaces."
Type only the domain name, such as links.example.com.
The domain is Active, but my QR codes still show qrforge.link Existing QR code images keep the address they were created with, and downloading them again gives the same image. Open the code, click Edit Design, then Apply to redraw it with your domain, and download it after that. Or create a new code. See Set up a custom domain.
My domain shows "not found" for a QR code A domain only serves the QR codes, pages and trails of its own project. Codes from other projects show "not found" on it.
