Your first QR code
Creating a QR code takes three steps: Select Type, Enter Details and Preview. You see these three steps at the top of the screen while you work.
Before you start
- You need an active trial or a paid plan to create QR codes. See Plans and what's included.
- New QR codes go into the project you are working in. Its name is shown at the top of the left menu. To use a different project, click the name and pick another one. See Switch projects.
Step 1: Select the type
- In the left menu, click Create QR Code.
- Under Select QR Code Type, click the type you need. For a link to your website, choose Website URL.
Not sure which type to pick? See QR code types explained.
Step 2: Enter the details
- In QR Code Name, type a name you will recognise later, for example Spring menu – table card. Only you see this name.
- Fill in the content. For a Website URL code, enter the web address in
Enter website URL. If you leave out
https://, QRForge adds it for you. - Click Create QR Code.
For a website code you can also open Advanced Settings. There you can add tracking parameters, set an expiration date or a scan limit, and add conditional redirection rules. These are optional, and some need a higher plan. See Tracking parameters and Conditional redirection.
Step 3: Preview and download
QRForge now creates the QR code image. This takes a few seconds, and you see Generating your QR… while it works. Then the QR Code Preview screen shows your code and its details. From here you can:
- click Download to save the image. See Download and print.
- click Edit Content to change where the code points.
- click Edit Design to change colours and style, or add a logo. See Design your QR code.
Your QR code works straight away. Scan it with your phone camera to test it.
Find your QR code later
- In the left menu, click My QRs.
- You see every QR code in the current project. Use Search QR codes… to find one by name.
- Use the buttons on each row to view analytics, edit, download or archive the code.
Tips
- Use clear names. Good names make your codes easy to find in My QRs and in Analytics.
- Test before you print. Scan the downloaded image with two different phones.
- You can change it later. You can change where a code points after printing. See Change where a QR code points.
Troubleshooting
"You have reached the maximum number of active QR codes allowed on your plan." You have as many active codes as your plan allows. Archive codes you no longer need, buy extra QR codes as an add-on, or upgrade. See Archive and restore QR codes and Plans and what's included.
"This URL has been flagged as unsafe and cannot be saved." QRForge checks every web address against a list of known harmful sites. If you believe your address is safe, contact support.
"Couldn't generate this QR code" Click Retry. If it keeps failing, contact support.
