Archive and restore QR codes
Archiving a QR code switches it off. It stops working when scanned, but QRForge keeps the code, its settings and all its analytics. You can restore it at any time, and the printed code works again.
When to archive
- A campaign or event is over.
- A code was printed by mistake and should stop working.
- You need room for new codes. Archived codes do not count towards your plan's QR code limit.
Archive a QR code
- In the left menu, click My QRs.
- On the code's row, click Archive QR code.
- Read the message in Archive QR Code, then click Archive.
From now on, anyone who scans the code sees a QRForge page that says "This code is no longer active".
Restore a QR code
- In My QRs, find the archived code.
- On its row, click Restore QR code.
- Click Restore.
You see "QR code restored." The code works again straight away, with the same destination as before.
Restoring needs a free place in your plan. If you are at your limit, archive another code first, buy more QR codes as an add-on, or upgrade.
Landing Page codes
A Landing Page code can only be restored when its page is published. If it is not, you see "The page must be published before this QR can be restored." and the code stays archived. Publish the page first. See Publish, save and undo.
Can I delete a QR code?
There is no button to delete a single QR code. Archive it instead. It stops working and no longer counts towards your limit, and you keep its history.
All QR codes are deleted only when you delete your whole account. See Export or delete your data.
Archiving a whole project
You can also archive a project. Then every code in that project stops working until you restore the project. See Archive a project.
Troubleshooting
"You have reached the maximum number of active QR codes allowed." You are at your plan's limit, so the code cannot be restored. Archive another code, buy the QR Codes Add-On, or upgrade. See Plans and what's included.
The code shows "blocked" QRForge checks every destination with Google's safe-browsing service, when you save it and again later. If the destination, or the destination of one of its conditional redirection rules, is flagged as harmful (for example malware or phishing), the code is blocked. A code can also be blocked when one of its conditional redirection rules was saved with invalid settings.
A blocked code:
- shows the status blocked in My QRs, and the reason on its details;
- stops working for the people who scan it;
- has no Archive or Restore button. You cannot unblock it yourself.
If you think the block is a mistake, or you have fixed the website, contact support with the name of the code. We review it and unblock it if it is safe.
"Could not archive QR code. Please try again." / "Could not restore QR code. Please try again." Check your internet connection and try again.
I restored a code, but it still says "no longer active" Check whether its project is archived. A code in an archived project does not work, even when the code itself is active.
