Download and print your QR code

You can download any QR code as a PNG image or, on paid plans, as an SVG file.

Download a QR code

  1. In the left menu, click My QRs.
  2. On the code's row, click Download QR code. You can also click Download on the QR Code Preview screen.
  3. In Download QR Code, choose a format:
    • PNG (under Raster)
    • SVG (under Vector)
  4. Click Download.

Which format should I use?

PNG — best for digital use; preserves transparency. Use it on websites, in emails, presentations and social media. Office printers handle it well too.

SVG — infinitely scalable, ideal for print and large-format. An SVG stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a banner. Send it to your designer or print shop. SVG download is available on the Pro plan and above.

Logos are in PNG only. If your code has a logo in the middle, the logo is included in PNG downloads only. See Design your QR code.

Printing tips

Follow these tips so your code scans every time:

  • Size. Print the code at least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 × 0.8 in). Make it bigger when people scan from further away. A good rule: the code should be about one tenth of the scanning distance. For a poster read from 2 metres, print it about 20 cm wide.
  • Quiet zone. Leave an empty margin around the code. QRForge adds one by default. Do not crop it, and do not place text or images in it.
  • Contrast. Use a dark code on a light background. Light codes on dark backgrounds, and pale colours, scan badly on many phones.
  • Surface. Avoid shiny, curved or creased surfaces where possible.
  • Test first. Scan a test print with at least two different phones before you print many copies.

Trail entry QR codes

A trail has its own entry QR code with its own download buttons. See Entry QR code and printing.

Troubleshooting

The SVG option is greyed out SVG download is available on the Pro plan and above. If you have no active plan, you can only download PNG. See Plans and what's included.

"Download failed. Please try again." Check your internet connection and try again. If it keeps failing, wait a minute: a newly created code may still be generating.

My logo is missing from the SVG That is expected. The logo is included in PNG downloads only.

The printed code does not scan

  • Make it bigger, or move the phone closer.
  • Increase the contrast between the code and the background.
  • Check that the quiet zone (empty margin) was not cut off.
  • If you added a large logo, make it smaller in Edit Design.

The code scans, but opens the wrong page Printing is fine. The destination is wrong. See Change where a QR code points.
