Stops and locations

Each stop on a trail is a Landing Page QR code. In the trail editor you can change how a stop is shown, put stops in order, and give each stop a location on the map.

Edit a stop

  1. In the left menu, click Trails, then click the trail to open it.
  2. Under Stops, find the stop. For each stop you can set:
    • Label (shown to visitor) — the stop's name on the trail, for example Clock tower.
    • Short description (optional, shown below label) — one line, for example Built in 1667.
    • Latitude and Longitude — the stop's location (optional).
  3. Use Move up and Move down to change the order.
  4. Click Save.

The content of the stop itself (text, images and so on) is its landing page. Edit it in the Page Builder. See Create a landing page.

Set a location with the map

  1. Next to the stop's coordinates, click Pick on map. The window Pick the stop's location opens.
  2. Find the place in one of three ways:
    • type in Search address or place and pick a result;
    • click Use my current location (handy when you are standing at the stop);
    • click the map, or drag the pin.
  3. Check the pin. The coordinates are shown under the map.
  4. Click Use this location.
  5. Click Save in the trail editor.

When the next stop has no location yet, the map starts near the previous stop, to save you scrolling.

You can also type the numbers yourself, for example from Google Maps: Latitude between -90 and 90, Longitude between -180 and 180.

What locations are used for

Locations are optional, but they make the trail much more useful:

  • the overview page shows the total distance and walking time;
  • each stop page shows Directions to the next stop with an estimated walking time;
  • with two or more located stops, the overview shows a route map;
  • the Route link opens the stops in Google Maps;
  • you can Download GPX route from the Trails list for use in hiking and map apps.

Distances and walking times are estimates in a straight line between stops. The real walking route may be longer.

Remove a stop

  1. Click Remove stop on the stop.
  2. Confirm. The stop is removed when you click Save.

Removing a stop does not delete its QR code or landing page.

Stop warnings

"This QR code is archived or paused. Visitors reaching this stop will see a placeholder." Restore the QR code in My QRs, or remove the stop. See Archive and restore QR codes.

"This QR code no longer exists. Visitors reaching this stop will see a placeholder." Remove the stop and add another one.

Troubleshooting

"Map unavailable — enter the coordinates manually." The map could not load. Type the Latitude and Longitude instead.

"Address search is unavailable right now. Place the pin on the map instead." Click the map to place the pin.

"Location access is blocked…" Your browser is not allowed to share your location. Allow it in the browser's site settings, or place the pin by hand.

"Stop 3: both latitude and longitude are required." Fill in both numbers, or clear both.

"Stop 3: latitude must be between -90 and 90, longitude between -180 and 180." The numbers may be swapped. Latitude comes first.
